The card that interfaces IDE to USB has died in some form. Originally, I thought it was just the USB cable, but after opening the case found that the adapter was overheating so badly, it had melted a lot of plastic surrounding it. From a cold start, within30 seconds (after 4 hours off), this part became insatiably hot.

I am now on a quest to find a new (better quality) 2.5″ IDE to USB solution that supports my 160GB drive.

This is relevant because it had 3 or 4 posts on it that I now can’t access or publish :(
